Better days

So overwhelmed with everything I need to do. To be frank, I really don't know where to start. Really wish you were here to help. Nothing is as fun without you. When you're around even the most tedious and mundane tasks become fun.
I don't care to reminisce on the bad times- the future moves forward; ours to write.

il mio compleanno; parte una

My darling friend Goretti and I happen to share birthdays. We were both born on the 10th of July- she in 78' and I in 87' ♡ This year we decided to combine forces have 2 parties, double the births, double the fun! N'est pas? ☺

This drink was an early morning drunken concoction by Rene made up of: Svedka vodka, natural cranberry concentrate, ginger ale, fresh raspberries and lime wedges.
It was magical! Not bad for off the cuff! Not bad AT ALL...I love how the sky looks so bright- it was near dawn !

Liz, my cousin, was gracious enough to not only fly in from San Antonio, TX to grace us with her presence but went above and beyond and made us a 5 star, award winning cake!

Liz blew us all away when she busted out these 3 little miracles. Lemon curd tarts w/meringue and raspberries for anyone unfortunate enough to not adore chocolate!!!

Goretti and I chose these funky candles and in hindsight I think we should have cut them in half or something haha looks a lil funny

Honestly, not to be emo or anything but this night was part one of the best weekends of my life. Amazing company, food, music, ambiance, everything. So so perfect. Truly left me smiling from ear to ear and feeling so very blessed to have such wonderful friends, family.
Stay tuned for part 2, it was the perfect sequel to the dinner party- a party in an enormous and historic house in Pasadena, filled with 100 of our closest friends, and the cherry on top of this magic sundae was residents of the house, the members of my new favorite band, Lagos Jump actually played a show!

celebrating stolen land & other truths

My little sister summed up my sentiments on the 4th of July pretty well. She sent me a text which read: "Go American idiots watching lights going up in the sky"...she just turned 13. So poignant.

Most Americans celebrate 'Independence' Day by having a BBQ & blowing things up all night. Toasting to 'Freedom' & keeping the fire and police departments plenty busy.... But what are they really celebrating? Declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain.....that shit was done on July 2nd! My guess is for most it's really all about having the day off of work, spending quality time with family/friends, & not so much about patriotism. I'm down for a good time, but something about celebrating this country rubs me the wrong way...

Still, I'd be lying if I said that's the only reason I dislike this holiday.....

It was the summer of 1997 that forever changed this holiday for me. A beautiful day in So Cal; spent on my dad's boat in my favorite pink rose print swimsuit. We made crêpes, snorkeled, & watched fireworks (put on by PROFESSIONALS & not the bad ass lil kids in the neighborhood) from a safe distance (i.e., watching from the deck of the boat that was anchored near the beach).
The entire day had been really lovely & coming home to find the giant driveway gate had been somehow knocked down by our 3, probably terrified, dogs was a real shock. The bubble literally burst. Full on panic set in when we realized that only 2 of the 3 dogs were accounted for & the search began. We all ran around the neighborhood frantically searching for our beloved Shar-Pei. Sadly the search ended rather quickly when I spotted what looked like a mangled paper bag laying lifelessly on the side of the road. A quick inspection by my then step-mother Sarah confirmed the worst-our lil wrinkly bundle of joy had been run over by a car & killed. My dad wrapped him up in a bed sheet & we had him (illegally) buried in our backyard in between the tree house & the plum tree.  :'(
When I think about it, that summer, and our pup's death was a pretty major marker in my life.
By the following summer almost everything in my life was different! Moved from Beverly Hills to a to the equestrian side of Glendale, where I didn't know a single soul. Dad divorced Sarah & got with his current wife, whom I still can't fucking stand. I graduated from the 5th grade, which in my school also meant moving from the 'little kid' grassy playground to the 'big kid' black top basketball courts that the middle & high school kids shared-A scary step I wasn't looking forward to!!!
My little sister was born July 2nd, 1998 & the world was new.

I have a feeling I won't be in the US this time next year so maybe I'll be looking at this holiday with a different sentiment, but currently it's one of contempt.....

America.............FUCK YEAH NAH

Makes me want to revisit the TINTIN SHOP

Good grief!!!
Photobucket
I'm glad Gabe knows who Tintin is!!!! For a second there I was beginning to feel like an A L I E N. . .
We had a little trouble getting on the same page about the dogs name but as it turns out, we're both right! I know him only as Milou but Gabe knew him as Snowy.....lost in translation hehehe

I always loved Captain Haddock's turtleneck sweater. Anchors <3333

How funny is it that a raging alcoholic was one of the main characters in a children's comic series. His drunkenness was apart of the jokes all the time too. It's not like suggested through imagery or anything hahahah

Ils sont fous ces romains!

just watched the episode of South Park about IMAGINATIONLAND and that shit had me bustin up!!

There was a quick flash of Obelix the tubby fellow above- He's Asterix's BFF/sidekick. That image of him sent my mind flying right back to the 1990's! Back when I was kid in Loz Feliz at the Lycée International de Los Angeles. My friends & I had a vast collection of LES AVENTURES D'ASTERIX LE GAULOIS (by René Goscinny) comic books at our disposal. I distinctly remember the feeling of the lush dark green carpet that lined the library floor.
On occasion we'd get to watch a video or two as a part of class or on a rainy day recess. Those lovable idiots were always getting into all sorts of trouble on their globe trotting adventures.
I could be mistaken but I'm guessing they're not insanely popular in the US because Gabe had NO CLUE what I was talking about...maybe some of my Canadian readers will know what's up though!

my sincerest form of flattery

Going To A Town

I'm going to a town that has already been burnt down
I'm going to a place that has already been disgraced
I'm gonna see some folks who have already been let down
I'm so tired of America

I'm gonna make it up for all of The Sunday Times
I'm gonna make it up for all of the nursery rhymes
They never really seem to want to tell the truth
I'm so tired of you, America

Making my own way home, ain't gonna be alone
I've got a life to lead, America
I've got a life to lead

Tell me, do you really think you go to hell for having loved?
Tell me, enough of thinking everything that you've done is good
I really need to know, after soaking the body of Jesus Christ in blood
I'm so tired of America

I really need to know
I may just never see you again, or might as well
You took advantage of a world that loved you well
I'm going to a town that has already been burnt down
I'm so tired of you, America

Making my own way home, ain't gonna be alone
I've got a life to lead, America
I've got a life to lead
I got a soul to feed
I got a dream to heed
And that's all I need

Making my own way home, ain't gonna be alone
I'm going to a town
That has already been burnt down

I spent the evening teaching myself the guitar tabs to this song. I'm one of those people who makes gawd awful covers & video records them. Except I never put them on youtube. In fact I never show them to anyone. Gabe sees them but because he has no choice HAHA
Sometimes I do just voice recordings instead of video and SOMETIMES I play/sing my OWN work. Mostly though, I like to do covers. They help me practice :D

It's so funny that I use tabs when I can read music perfectly fine. I was taught to read music at a super young age so you'd think I'd be more inclined to use them now.....
Perhaps it's because Gabe doesn't read music? He is my only band mate you know.

One of these days I'll muster up the courage to post a video or audio clip....

For now the original and ONE AND ONLY:

Summer lovin ♥

Excuse my absense, I've been out, enjoying the summer. Basking in the sensastion of the sun beating on my skin.
Sunblock, slurpees, water, swimsuits, sandals, and sunglasses are my essentials right now.
We've been spending time at the beach, the pool, and the river. At night we retreat to movie theatres, places with A/C and ice cream.

Summer reading.

I've been obsessed with lil Edie and big Edie and everything connected with Grey Gardens after seeing the 1975 documentary.
I loved Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange in the 2009 for TV movie.
Now this:

Lil Edie's diary. I cannot wait to read this and get to know the world through the thoughts of a wealthy 11yr old living in 1929.
