Last week I introduced y'all to a band with a Saturday night residency (that only has 1 more show left!!) @ Casey's Irish Pub in Downtown LA but I didn't really tell you who they are.

Who knew me forwarding one friend's number to another friend could ever turn into something as awesome and amazing as this?! When my bff Puah told me her older brother Johnny was looking for a drummer I almost immediately thought of my girl Christina. I knew they'd get on well but I had no expectations past that. I mean, I always knew they were both incredibly talented musicians but when they played their 1st show @ a party on Halloween in 2010 I had no idea just how hard they were gonna rock my socks off!!! I've been in love ever since. If you live in LA I highly recommend you get your ass down to Casey's next Saturday, June 25th & see Lagos Jump blow you away. It's a FREE show & the drinks are awesome. (I recommend the Bradbury shot!) Do a YouTube search for more videos of them playing shows at places around LA to hear more of their music.

LAFF part deux

I just saw that "L'arcano incantore" aka The Arcane Enchanter or The Arcane Sorcerer will be having a special screening thanks to Guillermo Del Torro at the REDCAT on Sunday @ 3:30pm!!!!

I was first introduced to this classic italian horror film almost 6yrs ago & I can't wait to see it again!!

Dad & I want to check out these flicks that will be screening at Film Independent's 17th (!!!) LA Film Festival. 

" The LAFF takes place June 16-26 in downtown Los Angeles. The Festival screens more than 200 features, shorts, documentaries and music videos from more than 40 countries. The Festival connects the movie-loving public to critically acclaimed filmmakers, film industry professionals, and emerging talent in the heart of Los Angeles, the entertainment capital of the world."

The Argentine Consulate sent us an e-mail promoting the following two films (Pascui Rivas grew up in Cordoba, the 2nd largest city in Argentina, & "Sidewalls" takes place in Bueno Aires) and I'm excited to see them both!

There are so many films screening and like most of the music festivals I go to, I find myself wishing there were more hours in the day, or that I could be in two places at once.

BIG things poppin' and little things stoppin'

I know everyone is all geared up for the election tomorrow, as they should be, and there are loads of really neat events to check out tomorrow for Dia de Los Muertos, but you know what else is tomorrow? The Old LA Farmer's Market in Highland Park. Every week I look forward to perusing through the merch of all the vendors, sampling the freshly sliced fruit, and purchasing a few goodies when I can. Last week's fair was extra special because it was the Haunted Harvest and they had face painters, storytellers, lots of yummy food, and Artichoke played!!! The smell of the roasting peanuts filled the air with an intoxicating scent of heaven that I just couldn't resist.

The Market runs from 3pm-8pm

It's Located at Ave 57 and Marmion Way next to the Metro Gold Line Highland Park Station

Artichoke rocked! (Join the fan club on Facebook!) I'm pretty sure I was the only person in attendance who knew every lyric and I kind of felt like Mel from Flight of The Concords but whatever, I happily tapped my feet and sang along :D

The band played one of my favorite songs, T-rex! Steve (the Theremin player) danced around in a T-Rex mask and I could hardly contain myself!!

As exciting as the Farmer's Market is, please don't forget to take a minute to vote. It's so important to inform yourself on the issues and candidates and make your opinion heard. No one else is going to do this for you and there are important issues at hand. Sometimes it scares me who uninformed my peers seem to be. I know politics may not be everybody's 'thing' and I admit that it can be intimidating to bring up the topic of politics (especially when there's an upcoming election) in mixed company, but if you are unclear on what the propositions are about or who's platform you agree with there are many many ways to educate yourself. I recommend The GOOD Voter Guide to California for a nice breakdown.

You'll enjoy the offerings of the Farmer's Market and the festivities of Dia de Los Muertos WAY more knowing you did your part and had your say. I know it's easy to get discouraged when the only thing you see about the elections is a bunch of pathetic and petty attack ads back and forth but don't let that get you down. Those are put in place to distract you from the real issues but don't fall for them. Know the facts and use your best judgement. 

After voting and grabbing a few healthy snacks from the Farmer's Market I'll be headed to East LA for Self Help Graphic's 37th Annual Dia de Los Muertos Celebration! The longest running Day of the Dead event in the country!!! The year's Master of Ceremonies will be none other than my favorite (from day one) contestant and winner of NBC's Last Comic Standing, Felipe Esparza!!! I'm stoked.

Excuse my absense, I've been out, enjoying the summer. Basking in the sensastion of the sun beating on my skin.
Sunblock, slurpees, water, swimsuits, sandals, and sunglasses are my essentials right now.
We've been spending time at the beach, the pool, and the river. At night we retreat to movie theatres, places with A/C and ice cream.

The house is looking spiffy lately. I feel the need to rearrange the layout of my room...
this weekend the garbage disposal got fixed, the shower curtain rod was fixed, the handle for the toilet in the littel bathroom was fixed, the contractor came and we discussed the fence he is going to build around the front and backyard!


school starts august 30th! Pre-med!!!! :-O!

The American Ballet Theatre presents The Sleeping Beauty at the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion July 15th-18th.












I've played at the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion (violin) before and it's an amazing theatre. I recommend that you go right away if you've never been.
I remember getting in trouble for playing in the water fountains when I was little =P
